The Virginia Regional Festival of FLIGHT

Suffolk Executive Airport (SFQ)
Our objective is to promote aerospace education and understanding of "recreational aviation" through the hosting of an annual Regional Festival of Flight. "Recreational aviation" encompasses: airplanes, fun, families, building, restoring, flying, exploring, and learning.
Organized by the Virginia Aviation Council, Inc., an IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation made up entirely with volunteers.
A brief history
- 1997 - first year of the Fly-In at Dinwiddie County Airport, Petersburg, VA
- 2002 - attendance was 4000, 638 aircraft flew in
- 2003 - reduced participation due to Hurricane Isabel
- 2004 - canceled due to Hurricane Ivan
- 2008 - moved to Suffolk Executive Airport, Suffolk, VA
Hours, admission, and general information
- May 31 and June 1, 2014
- Gate hours are 8AM to 5PM Saturday and 8AM to 4PM on Sunday for drive-in public
- $10 per person including campers
- Kids 13 and under FREE
- Parking is FREE
- Recreational vehicles, travel trailers and tents
- $10 per night without power
- $15 per night with power
- Airplane "under the wing" camping is FREE in designated areas.
- $5 per pilot and each passenger 14 years and older payable at the Aircraft Registration tents.
- Pancake breakfast Saturday and Sunday morning from 8 to 11 AM
- Youth Tent with activities for our younger guests
- Young Eagles Flights
- On-field activities include:
- No pets will be admitted past the Admission Gate. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THEM IN YOUR CAR!
Aviation
- Show planes can be judged under the following classifications:
- Homebuilt, custom
- Homebuilt, kit
- Antique (1903-1945)
- Classic (1946-1955)
- The Warbirds, Ultralights and Rotorcraft will be directed to park in special designated areas. These classifications of aircraft are eligible to be judged after they register at Aircraft Registration and receive a judging prop card.
- There will also be radio controlled aircraft displays.
Accommodations and Camping
For those people who volunteer and work at least four hours, there is a very special Volunteer Dinner on Saturday night. Be sure and register to volunteer on-line.
The Virginia Aviation Council accepts no responsibility or liability for animal actions or safety during either set up, the Fly-In or tear down. Any pet in the campground MUST remain on a leash at all times.
