EAA Young Eagles Flights

Free airplane rides will be given to youths between the ages of 8 and 17 at Suffolk Executive Airport on Sunday, May 23 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM (weather permitting) sponsored by the Virginia Regional Festival of Flight. The Young Eagles flights are part of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles Program created to interest young people in aviation. The program was launched by the EAA based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and has flown more than 1.4 million young people who reside in more than 90 countries.

Each child must have his or her parent or guardian sign the Release form in order to obtain a flight.

Each young person will receive a certificate making them an official Young Eagle. Their name will then be entered into the "World's Largest Logbook" which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh, WI. The Logbook is also accessible on the web at www.youngeagles.org.

Each pilot volunteers their time and the use of their aircraft so the flights can be provided free of charge. The pilots must have a current EAA membership and be able to show their card. Pilots and ground crew interested in signing up, please see Shelia Swanson in the Youth Area.

Additional information about the EAA is available on their Home Page, www.eaa.org and the Young Eagles web page is www.youngeagles.org.

More information about the Young Eagles Flights at the Virginia Regional Festival of Flight can be obtained at the Youth Area. The Youths will be picked up by the Shuttle at the end of Peanut Butter Road and taken to the flight area. If a child comes to the Fly-In on Saturday and wants a Young Eagles flight on Sunday, the parent or guardian, who must sign a Release, must show their bracelets they obtained on Saturday at the main Admission gate.
